Our volunteer guide gave us the most interesting tour of WGBH Headquarters in Brighton.

Their call letters stand for the location of their broadcast antenna on Great Blue Hills (GBH).
We learned that many announcers stand up when speaking on air: Jim Braude and Margerie Eagan were live and in action doing their mid-day "Boston Public Radio" while we watched from the other side of the window. Nevertheless, Cathy Fuller was sitting during her classical music program.

The Building is state of the art, with special flooring and walls to allow for perfect sound recording and echo reduction. And WGBH organizes many events open to the public.

We had lunch across the street at the Stockyard to finish a wonderful day.

In spite of the snow, a good crowd attended the Holiday Party. It was warm and fun indoors, thanks to everyone's festive dishes and lively conversation with old and new friends.

A big Thank You to our hosts for opening their home for this beloved tradition.

Our thanks to Iko and Matsuko for their delightful presentation about the traditions of Japanese kimonos.  Matsuko, known as the "Kimono Ambassador", had everyone try her hand at making an origami kimono to demonstrate how they are made.  Members modeled to show that kimonos really are one size fits all.

The Cultural Exchange program got off to an interesting start.

Chris told us about her 500-mile walk on "The way of St. James", from the Pyrenees to Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, Spain. She and her husband walked for about one week/year, for 4 years to cover the distance. People she met, wonderful landscapes, hostels and meals in great company were all captured in her collection of photos. Thank you for sharing your adventure!

Tatjana introduced the audience to the world of dates: varieties, places where they grow, uses, and health benefits. We got to taste a variety of dates and date-based dishes. A wonderful trip to the regions where dates grow.

Some members travel to Boston, others leave the city to see family and friends far away. In any case, today was a great opportunity to catch up with friends who happen to be in town, or who could get away from work for a little while. We should definitely do this more often!

Those who could not make it - we missed you.

Enjoy the rest of your summer, everybody !
